TMVs and Legionella
Although the valves provide water at a safer temperature, they increase the risk of Legionella. The mixed water downstream of a TMV creates an environment in which the Legionella bacteria can potentially thrive and this needs to be managed.
Who needs to use TMVs?
TMVs are very important for scald protection for anyone but are particularly important for the very young, such as in schools and childcare facilities, and for the elderly and infirm, such as in hospitals and care homes.
Legionella monitoring and TMVs
Any premises that use TMVs must ensure that they are installed correctly and that they manage the on-going risk of Legionella. Without effective water hygiene measures and monitoring, your organisation and its people could be at risk from Legionnaires’ diseases.
Maintaining your thermostatic mixer valves
TMVs need regular servicing and testing to ensure they are working correctly and to detect harmful levels of Legionella bacteria in the water supply
