Case Study: City of Bradford Metropolitan Council

Project outline:

In March 2024, Aquatrust was reappointed by the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (CBMDC) to provide comprehensive water hygiene services across a broad range of council properties. Our role includes conducting water system risk assessments and maintaining an ongoing water hygiene monitoring program for around 300 properties over the next three years, with an option to extend the contract for an additional two years.

CBMDC's properties are diverse, including schools, leisure facilities, social housing, care homes, iconic venues like the Alhambra Theatre and St George's Hall and attractions such as Ilkley Lido. Ensuring water hygiene across these varied sites is crucial for public health and safety.

Project Description

Our recent reappointment by CBMDC continues our long-standing relationship. For the past decade, we have consistently provided effective water hygiene services, successfully completing two previous five-year contracts. Our strong track record and unwavering dedication to quality and compliance played a significant role in securing this new contract.

Under this new agreement, our duties include:

  • Conducting detailed water system risk assessments across all CBMDC properties
  • Customising monitoring programmes to meet the specific needs of each site
  • Performing regular inspections, testing and maintenance to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Offering comprehensive reporting and documentation for clear and transparent communication

Driven by quality

Quality was a key focus in the tender process, with 70% of the overall score based on our technical expertise and service delivery capabilities. Our bid highlighted our ability to produce high-quality risk assessments that meet CBMDC’s strict standards. Additionally, our engineers underwent thorough evaluations during two monitored site visits where they demonstrated their skill and efficiency in water hygiene monitoring.

Our commitment

Our tender submission also underscored our commitment to delivering social value within the Bradford community. As part of the contract, we pledged to:

  • Spend at least 40% of the contract's annual expenditure with businesses holding a Bradford (BD) postcode, supporting the local economy.
  • Provide employability support, including CV advice, mock interviews and career guidance to at least one student per year from local schools and colleges.
  • Dedicate eight hours annually to collaborate with CBMDC on proposals for future improvements.
  • Contribute 25 hours per year to volunteering efforts that support community projects and activities within the Bradford district.

Continued excellence

Darren Briggs, Legionella Officer, Built Environment at CBMDC, commented on the ongoing partnership:

"We are delighted to continue our partnership with Aquatrust. Their commitment to quality and compliance is evident, and the recent successful tender bid demonstrates their dedication to delivering reliable and effective services. Partnering with Aquatrust gives us peace of mind that our water systems are in safe hands. We look forward to continuing our work together."

With this reappointment, we reinforce our position as a trusted provider of water hygiene services, ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance across CBMDC's diverse property portfolio while actively contributing to the local Bradford community
